Effective March 1, 2013, the Treasury Department will no longer mail paper checks to people who receive Social Security or other government benefits. These benefit payments can be made by Direct Deposit to your Checking or Savings account at FNB. If recipients have not arranged for Direct Deposit by this date they will automatically receive their monthly payments by Direct Express® Debit MasterCard® card.
Direct Deposit is the safe and easy way to get federal benefit payments.
- It will eliminate the risk of stolen checks, protect you from financial crime and provide more control over your money.
- It will give you immediate access to your funds.
- Problems with payments are fewer and measurably easier to track and resolve than problems with mailed checks.
If you currently receive benefits by paper check, you should make the switch to Direct Deposit and get your money in a safer and more reliable way. FNB can make the sign up process easy for you. Using our Auto-Enrollment program, we can handle the sign up for you at any of our banking centers. There is no need to complete any forms or even make a phone call. We will transmit all of your information directly to the Social Security Administration and you will receive a confirmation in the mail from the SSA within a short period of time.
In addition, the U.S. Department of Treasury and the Federal Reserve Banks are sponsoring the Go Direct program that allows you to use their Auto-Enrollment program online. Simply go to: www.godirect.gov and follow the on screen links that say “Get Direct Deposit” to complete the Auto-Enrollment process.
